What Do I Need to Do Before My New Washer and Dryer Are Delivered and Installed?
Q: I’m replacing my washer and dryer. What should I do before Beacon delivers and installs the new units?
A: Preparing your laundry area ahead of time helps installation go quickly and safely. You’ll want to clear space, check water and drain connections, confirm power for an electric dryer, and empty your old appliances before haul-away.
1. Clear the Laundry Area and Pathways
Before delivery:
- Move baskets, detergents, shelves, and storage items away from the washer and dryer area.
- Clear hallways, doorways, and tight turns the appliances will need to pass through.
- Secure pets in another room so doors can remain open safely.
2. Check Water Shutoff Valves and Drain
For the washer:
- Locate the hot and cold water shutoff valves and make sure they turn on and off.
- Check the drain standpipe to confirm it’s accessible and not blocked.
If a valve is leaking, stuck, or damaged, mention it when scheduling so options can be discussed ahead of time.
3. Confirm Power for an Electric Dryer
Beacon installs and services electric dryers only, not gas. Before delivery:
- Locate the 240-volt outlet for the electric dryer.
- Make sure the outlet is secure, undamaged, and accessible.
If you currently have a gas dryer and want to switch to electric, additional electrical work by a licensed electrician may be required before installation.
4. Empty and Unplug the Old Washer and Dryer
On installation day:
- Remove all clothing from both the washer and dryer.
- Unplug the appliances from their outlets.
- Clear items from the tops so units can be moved safely.
If Beacon is hauling away the old appliances, they should be empty and disconnected from power before our team arrives.
5. Level Flooring and Space Considerations
If the laundry room floor is uneven or has soft spots, let us know ahead of time. Washers and dryers must be level and stable to operate properly and avoid vibration or noise issues.
6. How Beacon Handles Laundry Installation
On delivery day, our friendly technicians in yellow polos will:
- Move the old washer and dryer out (if haul-away is included).
- Set the new units in place and connect water hoses and the drain for the washer.
- Connect the electric dryer to the existing 240-volt outlet (when compatible).
- Level the appliances and perform a basic test to confirm operation.
