The refrigerant moves between the condensing unit and the air handler and is hot or cold depending on it's location and settings. There is a flow of indoor and outdoor air across the refrigerant charged coils. The air is moved by fans that are powered by high voltage electricity along with the compressor. These items are controlled by a variety of relays along with the thermostat that are powered by low voltage electricity. If one system fails to operate as intended, the entire system suffers or fails.

Proper refrigerant charge measured by superheat, duct static pressures adjusted by duct sizes, and CFM's (Cubic Feet per Minute) of air pushed by adjustable electronically controlled variable speed motors, are just a few of the items taken into consideration during service and repairs.
