Samsung Dryer TS Error Code: What It Means & What to Check
If your Samsung dryer is showing TS, it typically indicates a temperature sensing error. In most cases, the dryer’s control isn’t getting the temperature readings it expects from the sensor circuit (often a thermistor), or the dryer is overheating because airflow is restricted.
Because dryer airflow issues can become a safety concern, start with the simple, high-impact checks below before you run more cycles.
What TS usually means on a Samsung dryer
TS generally means the dryer is having trouble sensing temperature correctly during operation. That can be caused by:
- A failing or out-of-range thermistor (temperature sensor)
- An overheat condition triggered by poor venting
- A problem with a high-limit thermostat or safety circuit
- Wiring or (less commonly) a control board issue
Safety first: what to do before troubleshooting
- If you smell burning, see smoke, or the dryer area feels extremely hot, stop using the dryer and call for service.
- Don’t bypass safety devices or run repeated cycles hoping the code disappears.
- In Florida homes, restricted vents are common — and they’re one of the most fixable causes.
Quick checks you can do at home
1) Clean the lint screen (every load)
Remove the lint screen and clean it thoroughly. Even a thin film of fabric softener residue can reduce airflow. If it looks “waxy,” wash it with warm water and a soft brush, then dry completely before reinstalling.
2) Check airflow at the outside vent hood
Run the dryer for a moment (on an air-only or timed setting, if available) and check outside:
- You should feel a strong, steady flow of air.
- If airflow is weak, pulsing, or absent, the vent may be restricted.
3) Confirm the vent isn’t crushed, kinked, or overly long
Behind the dryer, make sure the vent hose isn’t smashed flat or sharply bent. Long runs, too many elbows, or sagging flex duct can trap lint and cause overheating.
4) Try a short test with the vent temporarily disconnected (if safe and practical)
If you can safely pull the dryer out and briefly run a short cycle with the vent disconnected (venting into the room temporarily), improved performance strongly suggests a vent restriction. Use this only as a quick test — lint and moisture should not be vented indoors for normal use.
5) Power reset
After airflow checks, you can reset the dryer:
- Turn the dryer off and unplug it (or switch off the breaker).
- Wait 2–5 minutes, then restore power.
- Run a short timed cycle and watch for the code returning.
Most common causes of Samsung TS
- Vent restriction (lint buildup, crushed hose, clogged hood, long run)
- Thermistor (temperature sensor) drifting out of range or failing
- High-limit thermostat opening due to overheating or failure
- Lint buildup inside the dryer affecting airflow over the heater housing
- Wiring/connector issue in the sensor circuit
- Control board issue (less common)
When to call Beacon
Call for service if:
- TS returns after you’ve confirmed strong airflow and a clean lint screen
- The dryer overheats, shuts down, or cycles off quickly
- Clothes take unusually long to dry (especially with a warm, humid laundry room)
- You suspect an internal lint buildup or sensor/thermostat issue
Our friendly technicians in yellow can test the thermistor and thermostat circuits, confirm airflow and temperature rise, and fix the underlying cause without guesswork.
