LG Washer tE/tE1/tE2 Error Code: What It Means & What to Check
Q: My LG washer is showing tE, tE1, or tE2. What does it mean, and what should I check?
A: On many LG washers, tE / tE1 / tE2 indicates a water temperature sensing problem. In plain terms, the washer’s control isn’t getting a normal signal from the thermistor (temperature sensor) in the tub/heating circuit. Start with the safe checks below. If the code returns, we’ll see how Beacon can help.
What usually causes tE/tE1/tE2?
Most commonly, this error is caused by:
- A loose, wet, or oxidized thermistor connector
- A failed thermistor
- Wiring damage between the sensor and the main control
Less often, inconsistent fill temperature can contribute—for example, selecting very hot water while the hot valve is partially closed or flow is restricted.
Fast, safe steps to try at home
- Power reset: Turn the washer off, then switch the breaker OFF for 5 minutes (or unplug for 5 minutes). Restore power and try again.
- Test with a normal temperature: Run a Normal cycle using Warm (avoid the hottest and coldest extremes during testing).
- Confirm water supply: Make sure both wall valves are fully open and hoses aren’t kinked.
- Cool-down if it was just run hot: If you recently ran a high-temp cycle (like Sanitary/Allergen), let the washer sit for about 30 minutes and retry.
Can detergent, oversuds, or the load trigger tE?
Sometimes. Heavy oversuds can trap heat and disrupt normal sensing, especially if the washer struggles to drain or rinse cleanly.
- Use HE detergent only
- For many loads, start with about ½ cap (adjust based on soil level and water hardness)
- Avoid stacking extra additives that increase foaming
If you see foam in the door boot (front-load) or excessive suds during agitation, reduce detergent on the next cycle.
When should you stop DIY and call Beacon?
Schedule service if tE/tE1/tE2 returns after the reset and a Warm/Normal test, or if the washer will not finish a cycle.
Our friendly technicians in yellow will:
- Check thermistor readings (resistance vs. temperature) and confirm the sensor is responding correctly
- Inspect the harness and connectors for corrosion, loose pins, pinched wiring, or water intrusion
- Verify fill valve operation and confirm the control is interpreting inputs correctly
We’ll replace only what testing confirms is actually faulty.
Why choose Beacon for LG washer repairs?
- LG-savvy diagnostics for sensors, valves, wiring, and controls
- Clear guidance when repair vs. replacement doesn’t make sense
- Local, tidy service from our friendly technicians in yellow
