LG Refrigerator DHE Error Code: What It Means & What to Check
If your LG refrigerator is showing DHE, it typically points to a dry function error. On many LG designs, the refrigerator uses a small “dry” system (often involving a heater and airflow) to help manage moisture and reduce condensation in certain areas. When the control board detects that the dry function isn’t operating normally, it may display DHE.
The good news: your first step is usually simple — a proper power reset. If the code returns, it’s time for service so the underlying cause (heater, fan/airflow, sensor, wiring, or control) can be confirmed.
What DHE usually means
DHE = “Dry function error.” This generally means the refrigerator isn’t seeing the expected response from the dry system during operation. The appliance may still cool, but you could also see symptoms like unusual condensation, inconsistent temperatures, or the error appearing after a power event.
Quick checks you can safely do at home
1) Do a full power reset
A reset can clear false codes caused by brief power glitches — which are common during Florida storms or quick outages.
- Unplug the refrigerator (or turn it off at the breaker if required).
- Wait 5 minutes (this helps the control fully discharge).
- Restore power and allow the unit time to stabilize.
If DHE clears and stays gone, it may have been a temporary control hiccup.
2) Confirm doors are sealing properly
Even though DHE is a “dry function” code, moisture intrusion can make related problems worse. Check:
- Gaskets for gaps, tears, or sticky residue
- That shelves/bins aren’t preventing full closure
- That the doors aren’t being held slightly open by items inside
3) Keep vents and airflow paths clear
Airflow matters for moisture control systems. Make sure vent areas inside the refrigerator aren’t blocked by containers or bags.
If DHE repeats after a reset, here’s what that usually indicates
If the error returns quickly — especially within the next day or two — the refrigerator is likely detecting a real fault that needs diagnosis. Common categories include:
- Dry heater / dry function system issue (heater not energizing as expected)
- Fan or airflow problem tied to the dry system
- Thermistor/sensor issue causing incorrect readings
- Wiring/connector problem (loose, corroded, or damaged)
- Control board problem (less common, but possible)
When to stop troubleshooting and call Beacon
Call for service if:
- DHE comes back after a full power reset
- You’re seeing heavy condensation or moisture inside the refrigerator
- The refrigerator won’t maintain temperature or is behaving inconsistently
- You notice unusual smells, buzzing, or electrical symptoms (tripping breaker, burning odor)
At that point, it’s best to have our friendly technicians in yellow test the dry system components, verify sensor readings, and inspect wiring and control outputs safely.
