LG Dryer TE2 Error Code: What It Means & What to Check

Q: My LG dryer shows TE2. What does that mean?

A: On many LG dryers, TE2 indicates a thermistor / temperature-sensing error. The thermistor is the dryer’s temperature sensor — it tells the control board how hot the dryer is getting. If that sensor signal is missing, out of range, or inconsistent, the dryer may stop the cycle, limit heat, or throw a TE2 code to prevent overheating or unsafe operation.

Most TE2 situations come down to airflow problems (the dryer heats but can’t move air properly) or a thermistor/wiring issue. Start with the safe checks below.

Safety first

  • If the dryer smells like burning, trips the breaker, or gets extremely hot to the touch, stop using it and schedule service.
  • Restricted venting is a major safety risk. If airflow is poor, address that before running multiple cycles.

What usually causes LG TE2

  • Restricted airflow (lint buildup in the vent, crushed duct, clogged exterior hood)
  • Dirty lint screen or lint buildup inside the lint housing
  • Loose sensor connection or wiring harness issue
  • Failed thermistor (sensor out of spec)
  • Control board issue interpreting the sensor signal incorrectly (less common)

Quick checks you can do at home

1) Do a hard reset

  1. Turn the dryer off.
  2. Unplug it (or switch the breaker off).
  3. Wait 2 minutes.
  4. Restore power and try a Timed Dry cycle.

If TE2 was a one-time control glitch, it may clear. If it returns, keep going.

2) Confirm airflow is strong (the most important check)

  • Clean the lint screen completely.
  • Check the screen for waxy residue (dryer sheets can leave a film). If water beads on the screen, wash it with warm water + a little dish soap, rinse, and dry.
  • Make sure the dryer isn’t pushed back crushing the vent duct.
  • Go outside and verify the exterior vent hood is opening and blowing strongly during a cycle.

Why this matters: poor airflow can cause temperatures to spike around the sensor, which can trigger TE2 even when the sensor is okay.

3) Try a short Timed Dry test

Run a 10-minute Timed Dry cycle on medium heat. If it heats briefly then stops and shows TE2, the dryer is likely seeing an abnormal temperature reading.

4) Check for obvious lint buildup around the door and lint area

Visible lint and dust around the door opening, base area, or lint housing can be a clue that airflow maintenance is overdue. If airflow remains weak after basic cleaning, schedule a vent inspection/cleaning.

When TE2 usually means a repair is needed

Schedule service if:

  • Airflow is strong and TE2 keeps returning
  • The dryer stops mid-cycle repeatedly
  • Heat behavior is erratic (overheating or no heat) along with TE2
  • You’ve confirmed the vent isn’t crushed and the exterior hood is clear

At that point, common service-level causes include a failed thermistor, a wiring harness/connector issue, or a control board problem.
