Frigidaire Oven F93 Error Code: What It Means & What to Check

Q: My Frigidaire range/oven displays F93. What does it mean?

A: On many Frigidaire (Electrolux-built) electric ranges, F93 is a door lock-related error. In plain English, the control board isn’t seeing the door lock mechanism move the way it expects (or it can’t confirm the lock position through its switches). This is most likely to show up during Self-Clean or right after it ends, because Self-Clean depends on the door lock for safety.

If your oven won’t start a bake cycle, keeps beeping, or the door is stuck locked, the goal is to do a few safe checks — without forcing the door or disassembling anything.

Safety first

  • Never force the oven door. It can damage the latch, hinges, or glass.
  • If this happened after Self-Clean, let the oven cool completely before troubleshooting.
  • If you smell burning, see smoke, or the display is glitching, shut off power at the breaker and schedule service.

What typically causes F93

F93 points toward a lock system that isn’t operating or reporting correctly. Common causes include:

  • Door lock motor/actuator failure (weak motor, stuck gears, binding latch)
  • Latch binding from heat or residue (Self-Clean can bake residue into the latch area)
  • Door alignment issue (door not closing squarely to the latch)
  • Failed lock position switch (or wiring problem to that switch)
  • Control board issue (less common, but possible)

What you can safely check at home

1) Make sure the oven is fully cool

If the code appeared during/after Self-Clean, the oven may remain locked until it drops below a safe temperature. In some kitchens, that can take 30–90 minutes or longer.

2) Cancel the cycle and try a full power reset

  1. Press Cancel/Off.
  2. Wait 60 seconds.
  3. Turn the oven off at the breaker for 2–3 minutes.
  4. Restore power and see if the oven returns to normal.

If F93 was triggered by a one-time control glitch, a full reset sometimes clears it.

3) Check the door closes evenly

A slight misalignment can keep the latch from moving freely:

  • Remove anything preventing a full close (foil, crumbs, racks out of position).
  • Check the gasket isn’t folded or bunched up.
  • Close the door gently and confirm it seals evenly on both sides.

4) Visually inspect the latch area (no prying, no sprays)

With the oven cool, look at the latch slot for obvious baked-on buildup. Avoid spraying cleaner into the latch opening or trying to pry the mechanism.

If the latch looks heavily gummed up or the door is stuck, service is usually the safest path.

5) If the door is stuck locked

If you’ve confirmed it’s cool and you’ve done the breaker reset but it’s still locked, the lock motor or switches may be stuck or failing. Do not force the door. Schedule a diagnostic so we can test the lock circuit properly.

When to call our technicians

Call our friendly technicians in yellow if:

  • F93 returns repeatedly (especially around Self-Clean)
  • The oven is stuck locked after cooling and a breaker reset
  • You hear clicking/buzzing near the latch with no successful lock/unlock
  • The oven won’t bake because it thinks the lock is engaged

Most fixes involve testing the lock motor/actuator, verifying the lock position switches, and confirming the control board is receiving the correct signal.

How to prevent future lock-code issues

  • Use Self-Clean sparingly. The extreme heat can stress door locks and electronics.
  • For routine cleaning, use gentler methods (once the oven is cool): mild soap and water, or manufacturer-approved cleaners.
  • Keep the door seal and closing surfaces clean so the door aligns properly.

Frigidaire Oven F93 FAQs

Is F93 different from other door lock codes like F92?

They’re in the same family. Both point to a door lock system problem (lock motor, switches, alignment, or wiring). The exact meaning can vary by model, but the troubleshooting approach is similar.

Why did this happen after Self-Clean?

Self-Clean runs at extremely high temperatures. That heat can stress the latch mechanism and lock motor, and it can also bake residue into the latch area, making it bind.

Will a breaker reset damage anything?

No — a brief breaker reset is a normal troubleshooting step. It can clear a one-time control glitch. If the lock mechanism is physically stuck or the motor is failing, the code will usually return.

Can I manually unlock the door?

We don’t recommend manual unlocking. Forcing or disassembling the latch area can damage the door, hinges, latch hardware, or wiring. If the door is stuck locked, it’s best to have it diagnosed professionally.

What part usually fixes F93?

Common repairs include the door lock motor/actuator assembly, lock position switch(es), or wiring repairs. A technician should test the circuit so the correct part is replaced.
