Bosch Dishwasher E15 Error Code: What It Means and What to Check
![]()
Q: My Bosch dishwasher is showing E15. What does E15 mean, and what should I check?
A: On many Bosch dishwashers, E15 means the leak protection system has activated. Water collected in the bottom base pan and lifted a float switch (often referred to as AquaStop behavior), so the dishwasher shuts down to help prevent water damage. The steps below are safe homeowner checks you can try first. If E15 returns, we’ll see how Beacon can help.
What triggers Bosch E15 most of the time?
Most often, E15 is caused by a small internal leak that slowly collects in the base pan. Common sources include:
- A loose hose or clamp inside the unit
- A seep at the sump area or pump seal
- A door gasket that isn’t sealing cleanly (or has buildup/tears)
- A cracked or leaking inlet valve
- Excess foaming from too much detergent or overfilled rinse aid
Is there a quick, safe first step?
Yes. Before anything else:
- Turn power OFF to the dishwasher at the breaker.
- Close the water supply valve under the sink.
- Carefully pull the dishwasher forward a few inches (if you can) and place towels along the base to protect the floor.
Can you clear the water in the base yourself?
If you’re comfortable doing so, you can sometimes clear the base pan water (and temporarily clear E15) by carefully tilting the dishwasher slightly forward (about 30–45 degrees) so trapped water drains onto towels. After draining, let the base dry completely. A fan can help speed drying.
Important: If E15 returns after drying, you likely have an active leak and the dishwasher should not continue to be run until the source is fixed.
What should you check after it dries?
- Detergent / rinse aid: Use dishwasher detergent as directed and avoid overfilling rinse aid. Oversuds can contribute to leak-protection trips.
- Door gasket and bottom edge: Look for food buildup, warping, tears, or anything preventing a clean seal.
- Filters and sump area: Confirm filters are seated correctly and free of cracks or debris that can cause splash-over.
- Drain and inlet areas: If you can see under the sink, confirm the water supply connection and drain connection are dry and snug.
Are installation issues a common cause of E15?
They can be. A loose water connection, a slow drip at a fitting, or improper drain setup can lead to water collecting over time. Make sure:
- The drain hose is secure and not rubbing or kinked
- A proper high loop (or air gap, if applicable) is present
- All visible connections under the sink are dry and tight
When should you call Beacon?
Call our friendly technicians in yellow if:
- E15 reappears after drying the base pan
- You see active drips, puddling, or corrosion/water tracks
- You hear unusual pump noises and the unit won’t run normally
- You’re not comfortable pulling the dishwasher or checking connections safely
Common fixes can include an inlet valve replacement, pump/sump sealing repairs, hose/clamp corrections, or door seal replacement. We’ll locate the exact leak and repair only what’s necessary.
